Barachiel's name means God's blessing, and also lightning of God. He is pictured scattering rose petals or holding a white rose to his chest, the chief of the guardian angels, linked to the color green, to humor, and even to games of chance. Jeremy and I were short on sleep that morning, and still the bowls locked into something calm and grounding.

Hold the breath at the heart and soften. Drop a golden cord from the base of your spine into the earth's core and let it recycle whatever you release. Feel the stillness inside your own perpetual motion. Clear the navel and the throat, sending anything heavy down the cord. Then rest as the bowls sound each center from root to crown, out to an eighth center above the head.

Midway, my hands began playing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star on their own. Never expect, always allow.

Barachiel reminds us to ask ourselves: how will you bless someone today?

Goodness, Mercy & Joy

Who is Archangel Barachiel? I'm really glad you asked. He's one of the lesser-known archangels, but don't let that fool you, 'cause this dude, he is a powerful and funny kind of guy. Definitely the sort of folk that you want to have hanging around, and here's why. Barachiel actually means “God's blessing.” He's thought of as the angel of blessings. The cool thing is his name also means “lightning of God.” So just like you would expect goodness to strike out of nowhere, that's how Barachiel will frequently show up.

…

Sometimes the images will show him holding either a basket that's overflowing with bread or sometimes a staff, both of which symbolize the blessing of producing children that God bestows on parents. Now, sometimes Barachiel will also appear in a feminine form. Now, you'll hear me referring to him today as a him, but angels don't have genders. There is no duality in the angelic realm. We perceive and connect with various feminine or masculine forms based on our understanding and these dualistic principles, but angels are beyond that. But sometimes we need a pronoun, so we'll go with one. So sometimes Barachiel is actually depicted in the feminine form, and that's usually done to emphasize that very nurturing work, especially in delivering blessings.

…

Now, from a religious standpoint, in the Third Book of Enoch, which is an ancient Jewish text, also really cool reading, light reading if you're into that, highly recommend it, Archangel Barachiel is described as one of the angels who serves as one of the great and honored angelic princes in heaven. And the text also mentions that he leads 496,000 other angels who work with him. Barachiel is part of the seraphim rank of angels who guard God's throne, as well as the leader of the guardian angels who do work with humans during their earthly lifetimes. So that's all in the ancient Jewish perspective.

Now, in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Barachiel is actually a saint. He's an official saint, and in [the] Roman Catholic Church as well. In Catholicism he's also venerated as a saint by some members. Catholic tradition says that Barachiel is the patron saint of marriage and family life. He also traditionally has dominion, like we said, over lightning and storms. So he's one of the few angels that actually made it into the liturgical calendar of the Lutheran [Church].

Now, from a more meta standpoint, in astrology, I love this, Barachiel is connected to the planet Jupiter, which is why this G is just going nuts, I think, and is linked to the zodiacal signs of Pisces and Scorpio, these water signs. Pisces connects us to the infinite, the all, that continued perpetual motion, that perfect balance and blend between the spiritual and the physical realms, whereas Scorpio tells us to go deep, also [a] water sign, defined in those dark depths of their soul. And I love that idea of Barachiel mixing in between these two worlds perfectly and beautifully, blessing us from the top to the bottom, because there is no top or bottom. It's just a function of how we perceive.

“May blessings light your path. May you know that you are a blessing simply by being in this world.”
