The Friday evening opener of our solstice weekend: a yoga nidra, or yogic sleep, set in the dream world of A Midsummer Night's Dream. I teach yoga nidra as the doorway where the body rests deeply and the mind stays awake.

Call up a desire of your heart and feel it come to pass, then drop it like a coin into dark water. Follow a firefly of light from your crown down through the soles of your feet, and settle into the warm room behind your breastbone. Stand in a garden under a sapphire blue summer night sky and find your own face in a deep violet iris. Follow the drifting light through tall grass to a towering old tree, lay your palm on its bark, and rise into the warm dark.

The dream keeps forming after the bowls go quiet. The most alive things are the ones still forming. One-on-one attunements on Zoom follow the meditation.

From the session

We dream life first

So as we begin to settle into this space, I just invite you to always be as open as you can feel in any moment, because that openness is what invites the miracle. Otherwise, we'll be exactly the same as we were when we began.

And sometimes it's easy to feel more open. Sometimes it's a little challenging. So, wherever you find yourself on that scale tonight, just know you're exactly where you are meant to be. And if you want to feel a little more open, see, what would it feel like if you could feel just 1% more open? Let your body feel into that.

And if it needs to settle back in again, that's fine, too. This is your journey. Some of you will blow open doors into the divine. Others of us will sneak in gently. However you approach is perfect, because tonight we practice yoga nidra, which means yogic sleep.

Now, it's not a kind of sleep that switches you off, but it's actually a much more rarified experience. It's when the body settles all the way down into rest, while that small light of you, your consciousness, remains awake, present, lit. So here you'll hover on that edge between waking and sleeping, that doorway that most of us only fall through on our way to somewhere else. So tonight, we purposefully walk that edge.

…

So as we begin to descend down past all of those busy thoughts towards that older, deeper part, that vivid, awake, wide open to the dreams of the nights, that's where the desires of our hearts secretly live. It's one of the most creative lands that you can journey into and that you pass through every night on your way to sleep, often without even remembering. But tonight, the opportunity is for us to remember.

…

So here's something I invite you just to begin to tuck into your mind and hold into your heart. My friends, this is not a practice to fix anything. There's nothing in you that needs repair. The year, this frequency of time in which we find ourselves moving through, is climbing towards its longest light, when the sun peaks this Sunday, reaching out as far as it can all year. And soon it will appear to stand still at the apex of the sky. We're almost there. These are the final nights before that shift.

So tonight, while it's dark, while it's evening, while it's approaching the darkness, the dreaming mind can go out ahead of you to find what that upcoming light is about to bring. We dream life first.

All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.
